Improving food and farming awareness with local schools is an ongoing goal for Slow Food USA and for our local Slow Food Upper Columbia Convivium.
Since 2006 we have been supportive of the USDA Free Fruits and Vegetables initiative at Orient School. In the spring of 2008 the students of Orient School visited Quillisascut Farm to learn more about the web of life and how the farms that feed our community interact with all of natures operating systems.
Orient school has recently learned that they will be receiving the USDA funding again this year so our Slow Food Community will have more opportunity to work with healthy foods and farming education.
Another program that we assisted on was a Farm Day for Summit Valley School at Paul’s Pastured Poultry, Pork and Beef (also the home of Susan Lieberman and Paul Dye) The kids were super energized to learn about all the livestock and farming that Paul and Susan have instigated on their land.
